dc.description.abstract | This study deals with one of the most important subjects related to the obligation of zakāh. It discusses one of the zakāh institutions in Indonesia called "Dompet Dhuafa" which means “Pocket for the Needy”. This institution is considered as one of the few zakāh' institutions which invests its collected funds. In its investment practice, Dompet Dhuafa uses contemporary economic and investment methodologies. The purpose of the study is to explore the historical development of this institution and the methods of running it. It also attempts to analyze the means that it uses in the process of investing its funds, evaluate the extent of its success in reducing poverty in Indonesia, and explicate the legal foundation it deploys in justifying its investment policy. This study employs analytical and evaluative methods. It analyzes the sources of zakāh funds as well as the means that the institution uses in collecting and distributing the zakāh and then evaluates its methods of investment. The study concludes that the Dompet Dhuafa succeeds in developing two practical methods in investing zakāh funds which makes it possible for the rest of Indonesia to emulate. In order to achieve its objectives, this institution has used qard al-hasan and mudārabah as their instruments to fund economic activities among the qualified. Through its investments, the institution has succeeded in improving the lives of Indonesian Muslim, namely their socio-economic status and human resources | en_US |
