Inspired by the ancient “Silk Road Spirit” that once dominated the global trade arena for thousands of years, OBOR comprises of six economic corridors spanning over more than three continents, involving nearly 65 countries and more. This is a qualitative study to address the research questions using both primary and secondary resources. While the initiators of OBOR claim of forging a symbiotic relationship with other participating countries based on mutual benefits and shared responsibilities, critics are not that keen to jump onto the bandwagon just yet. The study argues that China, as one of the key emerging super powers, is using OBOR as a tool that can be used to empower and consolidate influence of its present leadership domestically, as well as securing China’s concrete presence in the region. However, posing multifaceted challenges this mammoth undertake can take its toll on China.
