Abstract in English: This study aimed at examining the level of applying the 21st century learning skills and their relationship with high school students’ motivation in the learning of Arabic language in Comoros. The mixed research method design was used to achieve the research objectives. The researcher distributed questionnaires to a sample of 134 high school students (A2), and conducted semi-structured interviews with a sample of six (6) teachers individually. The descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient test were used to analyze the quantitative data, while the thematic analysis approach was used for the qualitative data. The results showed that in overall the application of 21st century learning skills in teaching Arabic was very low. They also showed that students were highly motivated in learning Arabic language using the 21st century learning skills, with a mean score of (3.70). The independent samples t-test showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the mean scores of the application of the 21st century learning skills between male and female secondary school students (A2). Moreover, there was a statistically significant relationship between the overall level of the application of 21st century learning skills, and only two skills (critical thinking and self or independent learning) with students’ motivation to learn the Arabic language. The analyses of the qualitative data revealed that the most important challenges in using the 21st century learning skills were problems in the curriculum and teaching methods, teachers’ lack of necessary skills, and students' poor understanding of the Arabic language. The study gave suggestions to face these challenges and facilitate the application of the 21st century learning skills, including raise the interest in the Arabic language, provide modern educational means, and keep motivating students to learn Arabic by applying learning 21st century skills. Finally, the study recommended to revise and develop the (A2) program taking into account the students’ interests and needs for learning the 21st century skills in a manner that matches the features and demands of the current century which is witnessing scientific and technological progress.
